FRK FOUNDATION COLLABORATES WITH THE GOTHIC AND MINING LEOGANG

The FRK Foundation is proud to support the Gothic and Mining Museum Leogang in two significant cultural initiatives that highlight the rich intersection of art, history, and alpine heritage.

Since November 2, 2023, the Museum has been home to our Renaissance masterpiece "Saint Daniel Instructs Miners" (c. 1505), currently on display as part of their permanent collection tour. This evocative painting offers a rare glimpse into the spiritual guidance miners sought during one of the most industrious periods in the Alpine region.

Building on this collaboration, the FRK Foundation is also contributing to the Museum’s 2025 special exhibition: “Carved Ibex Horn – A Treasure from the Archbishopric of Salzburg.” For this project, we have loaned a historically significant ibex trophy from our collection. This particular specimen marks a pivotal moment in Austrian conservation history: the first male ibex reintroduced into the Blühnbach Valley in 1920, after the species had been driven to extinction in Austria.

Running from March through October 31, 2025, the exhibition explores the intricate and symbolic art of ibex horn carving, a craft that flourished in Salzburg during the 17th and 18th centuries. Revered as the “King of the Alps,” the ibex inspired awe and superstition, with its horns believed to hold mystical properties. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire one of the most important private collections of ibex horn carvings ever assembled.

We are honoured to partner with the Gothic and Mining Museum Leogang in preserving and celebrating this exceptional cultural heritage.
