Philippe Jaroussky Leads Masterclass at Schloss Blühnbach

Frederick R. Koch Foundation of Austria Event Champions Young Talent in Austria’s Idyllic Alpine Setting

A Gathering of Talent and Tradition

At the Frederick R. Koch Foundation of Austria, our mission is to create transformative opportunities for emerging artists - moments when inspiration, mentorship, and excellence converge. Last week, that vision came vividly to life as internationally acclaimed countertenor Philippe Jaroussky led an extraordinary vocal masterclass within the historic walls of Schloss Blühnbach. Lauded worldwide for his ethereal tone and expressive artistry, Jaroussky’s presence alone made the day an unforgettable gift to the next generation of musicians.

The gathering brought together three gifted vocal students from Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts, alongside young musicians from Munich and Salzburg’s Mozarteum. For them, the Foundation provided not only direct access to a musical legend, but also an immersive environment where technical mastery, artistic expression, and personal connection could flourish in equal measure.

The atmosphere was one of collaboration and generosity. Jaroussky engaged students, faculty, alumni, patrons, and local music enthusiasts alike, inviting them into the creative process through inclusive dialogue. His guidance was both meticulous and inspiring, balancing precise technical advice with a deep exploration of the emotional heart of each piece. He spoke candidly of his own artistic journey, moments of triumph as well as challenge, reminding all present that mastery is a lifelong pursuit.

Following the class, guests gathered for a convivial reception and dinner, where conversations flowed from the day’s musical insights to future collaborations. Bonds were formed, ideas exchanged, and the seeds of new artistic ventures planted.

This masterclass is set to become a cherished tradition at Schloss Blühnbach, reflecting the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to championing young artists. Here, in a setting where cultural heritage meets creative excellence, the Frederick R. Koch Foundation continues to open doors for those at the threshold of their careers.

The Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to Philippe Jaroussky for his exceptional artistry and mentorship. His appearance at Schloss Blühnbach was a highlight of the summer season—and comes as he stars in Hotel Metamorphosis at the 2025 Salzburg Festival.
